What Is Tempered Safety Glass?

Tempered safety glass is created by heating standard glass to extremely high temperatures and then rapidly cooling it. This process—known as thermal toughening—changes the internal structure of the glass, making it four to five times stronger than regular annealed glass.

When tempered glass does break, it shatters into small, blunt granular pieces rather than dangerous sharp shards. This “crumb-like” break pattern dramatically reduces the risk of injury, making it ideal for both residential and commercial environments.
